Francouzská umělkyně Charlotte L’Harmeroult se po roce od své akce IN BETWEEN vrací do galerie Ex Post s novou performancí nazvanou DO NOTHING. Ta se uskuteční 18. září 2025 a je součástí programu k desátému výročí galerie. V minimalistickém patnáctiminutovém formátu nabídne publiku možnost zpomalit a vstoupit do prostoru, kde není třeba „dělat“ ani „mít“, ale prostě jen „být“.
DO NOTHING je vědomé vystoupení z nekonečného koloběhu činností. V centru nestojí estetický objekt, ale samotná zkušenost – okamžik, kdy může publikum zakusit jemnou hranici mezi běžným stavem vědomí a stavem transu.
L’Harmeroult je uznávaná pro své důsledné zkoumání hranic vědomí a jeho proměněných stavů. Ve svých dosavadních projektech se pohybovala mezi vizuálním uměním, textilem, fotografií a instalací, přičemž vždy usilovala o zviditelňování skrytých vrstev lidské zkušenosti. Tentokrát jde ještě dál: pracuje s hypnózou, kterou chápe jako prostředek k dosažení intenzivní přítomnosti a vnímání reality za hranicemi ega.
Umělkyně byla vyškolena v technikách transu, magnetismu a energetické práce v nemocnici Bagatelle v Bordeaux a v centru Quintessence v Gradignanu, přičemž zdůrazňuje nutnost bezpečného prostředí a vzájemné důvěry mezi ní a diváky.
Performance je koncipována tak, aby diváci odložili tašky a kabáty v šatně, a tím symbolicky odevzdali své vnější identity i rušivé podněty. Samotné dění se odehraje přímo uprostřed expozice, kde zůstane jen to podstatné: umělkyně a předměty fyzického i symbolického významu. „Naše společnost nás neustále nutí k výkonu a produktivitě. Já chci nabídnout pauzu, prostor, kde je možné prostě jen být,“ vysvětluje autorka.

One year after her project IN BETWEEN, French artist Charlotte L’Harmeroult returns to Ex Post Gallery with a new performance entitled DO NOTHING. The performance will take place on September 18, 2025, as part of the program marking the institution’s tenth anniversary of the gallery. In a minimalist fifteen-minute format, she offers the audience the chance to slow down and enter a space where it is no longer necessary to “do” or “have,” but simply to “be.”
L’Harmeroult is renowned for her rigorous exploration of the frontiers of consciousness and its altered states. In her previous projects she has moved between visual art, textiles, photography, and installation, always striving to reveal the hidden layers of human experience. This time she goes further: she works with hypnosis, which she regards as a tool for achieving deep presence and perceiving reality beyond the ego.
The artist was trained in trance techniques, magnetism, and energy work at the Bagatelle Hospital in Bordeaux and at the Quintessence Center in Gradignan. She emphasizes the importance of a safe environment and mutual trust between herself and the audience.
The performance is conceived so that spectators are invited to leave their bags and coats in the cloakroom, thereby symbolically giving up external identities and distractions. The action itself will unfold at the very center of the exhibition, where only the essential remains: the artist and objects of both physical and symbolic significance. “Our society constantly pushes us toward performance and productivity. I want to offer a pause, a space where it is possible simply to be,” the artist explains.
DO NOTHING is a conscious withdrawal from the endless cycle of activities. At its core is not the aesthetic object, but the experience itself – the moment when the audience may perceive the subtle boundary between ordinary consciousness and the state of trance.
